Present Simple
Use
We use the Present Simple:
For habits and actions that we do regulary:
He visits his friends every Sunday.
She goes to school by bus.
For general truths:
The sun rises in the East.
For permanent situations:
He lives in Athens.
Expressions used with the Present Simple
Frequency adverbs: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never (they are placed before the main verb)
Time Expressions:
every day / week / Friday…
on Mondays / Sundays…
at the morning / afternoon…
in winter / spring
once a day / week…

Frequency Adverbs
USE
We use frecuency adverbs to describe how often something happens. We use them with the Present Simple tense.
Always (100%) Usually (75%) Often (50%) Sometimes (25%) Never (0%)
Position
We place the frecuency adverbs BEFORE the main verbs (in Present Simple).
- I always walk to work.
- He doesn’t usually wear jeans.
- Do you often write letters?
But, we put them AFTER the verb TO BE.
- He is never late.
- The children aren’t usually tired after school.
- Are you often sad?
Other expressions of frequency
How often…? To ask about the frequency of an action. We place it at the beninning of the question.
How often … {do, does} … {I, you, he / she / it, we, they} … verb … ?
How often do you go to the cinema?
How often does Mary cook?
{once, twice, three times, four times…} a {day, week, month, year}
Use once / twice. (NOT one time, two times)
once (una vez), twice (dos veces)
We go to the theatre once a week.
Peter plays football five times a month.
Every {evening / morning / night…, day / weekend… Saturday / Monday… week / year…}
Mary cooks every day.
I play tennis every Sunday.
The rest of the frequency expressions are placed at the end of the sentence.

C. Use the prompts and the frequency adverbs to write sentences about yourself.

- Have lunch at school. I often have lunch at school.
- Do homework in the afternoon. I sometimes do homework in the afternoon.
- Play computer games in the evenings. I never play computer games in the evenings.
- Cook dinner. I often cook dinner.
- Watch TV before I go to bed. I sometimes watch tv before go to bed.
- Go to bed early. I sometimes go to bed early.
